Do you want to be able to have a whole bunch of smart lights all lighting up together to create the perfect atmosphere for enjoying your favorite tunes? Well, the most popular smart lighting system in the world, Philips Hue, can now connect to the world’s premier music streaming service, Spotify, for the ultimate experience.
With Philips Hue, it is easy to control all the smart lights in your home. And, with the new integration with Spotify, the lighting system will be ever more interesting.
For those who are interested in taking advantage of this cool feature, the steps below explain how to set up the connection between the two and create a nice atmosphere.
Let’s get started!
What You’ll Need
To begin, make sure you have the following items before starting:
- Philips Hue bridge which connects to your WiFi network,
- A set of Hue lights or a single Hue light (like the Hue Bloom),
- Philips Hue app installed on your device,
- Spotify account and Spotify app installed on your device.
This integration uses an algorithm that makes the Hue light react to the music, without the use of a microphone.
Setting Up an Entertainment Area
Once you have all the items mentioned above, you need to follow these simple steps:
- Open the Philips Hue app on your phone.
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Tap the Create Area icon (if you already have another area, tap the icon in the top right corner “+” to create a new area).
- Now tap To listen to music.
- Name the area as you like.
- Select lights that you wish to use for this area.
- Now position the lights on the app exactly as they are placed in your room.
- When you are finished, tap Done, and the Entertainment Area will be created.
Connecting Your Spotify and Philips Hue Accounts
Now that you’ve set up your entertainment area, it is time to start connecting Spotify and Philips Hue accounts.
- In the Philips Hue app, you will see a Sync button in the middle. Tap the Sync button and it will open How do you want to sync your lights screen.
- Now tap Spotify account.
- After you’ve read the privacy terms, tap next.
- Now log in with your Hue account.
- You’ll now be asked to authorize the Spotify account. Agree, and you are all set!
- If you have an Amazon Alexa or a Google Assistant, you can also use them with music syncing.
Syncing
Whenever you press the Sync button, your Philips Hue lights will react to the music you are listening to at the moment. On this screen, you can change the style from Classic to Pulse, play around with the Intensity, and change colors and brightness. Have fun!
